Qualified Health & Safety Officer (QHSO™) Designation

The Qualified Health & Safety Officer (QHSO™) is an accredited designation, developed by the Alberta Association for Safety Partnerships (AASP), to provide individuals with a development path if they choose to pursue a career as an OHS professional and safety leader within their current employment.

Individuals who achieve a Qualified Health & Safety Officer (QHSO™) designation will have completed the ten compulsory modules, two electives, written an overall comprehensive exam and passed with a minimum of 70%. In doing so, the QHSO™ will have a complete understanding of safety responsibilities, expectations, and will be capable in assisting their employer in the management of an effective safety system.

The University of Alberta’s Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Certificate Program is pleased to honour student who possess the Qualified Health & Safety Officer (QHSO™) professional designation. Candidates who receive their QHSO Certification will receive a maximum exemption of 21 hours towards the “Enrichment Seminar” requirement of the OH&S Certificate Program.

Students meeting the admission requirements into the OH&S Certificate program can apply for exemption credit by completing the Application for Exemption form that can be found at: www.extension.ualberta.ca/ohs
